CHU launches Green Grant Program to support sustainability

CHU is proud to launch its Green Grant Program which will support sustainable initiatives within residential strata properties.

Open to policyholders of CHU's Residential Strata Insurance, the Green Grant Program will award a total of $50,000 in its inaugural year to empower body corporates and property owners to implement sustainable initiatives that reduce their environmental footprint, improve energy efficiency and foster community involvement.

The program addresses a fundamental gap in Australia's strata sector by removing barriers that prevent lower-income properties from accessing sustainability upgrades. By offering Environmental or Social grants scaled to meet the needs of diverse communities, CHU is enabling broader participation in the transition to sustainable infrastructure.

"The Green Grant Program represents our commitment to a sustainable future for Australia's strata communities," said Kimberley Jonsson, Chief Executive Officer of CHU. "We want to empower body corporates and property owners to implement sustainable initiatives that reduce their environmental footprint and improve energy efficiency, ultimately supporting healthier strata buildings."

The initiative builds on CHU's existing sustainability commitments, including its role as a signatory to the Strata Community Association's Sustainability Charter and adoption of the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals.

To be eligible for the Green Grant Program, policyholders of CHU's Residential Strata Insurance must have maintained coverage for three consecutive years.

Applications will be assessed by a panel of industry leaders, with the selection process designed to identify projects with the greatest potential for environmental and social impact which address at least one pillar:

  • Environmental: Energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation
  • Social: Community well-being, accessibility, safety

Important dates:

  • Friday, 27 March 2026 – Applications close
  • March – June 2026 A panel of judges to review the final candidates and proposals
  • Friday, 19 June 2026 – Grant recipients to be announced
