State of Origin 1 Event - Raising awareness for the Deadly Choices program
Last night, CHU Underwriting Agencies QLD had the great pleasure of hosting a State of Origin 1 event in Brisbane for Brisbane intermediaries. It was such a great night to catch up and watch the game and one of the big highlights was our Underwriting Manager, Shane Schneider, interviewing Rugby League great, Steve Renouf. Steve shared many stories about his career with the Brisbane Broncos. He holds the record for most tries for the Broncos (142), and was named in the Broncos 10 and 20 year teams, the 25 year grand final team, and the Indigenous Team of the Century.
Steve is a proud Gunggari and Gubbi Gubbi man. He was able to play at the elite level with diabetes and he has gone on to do some wonderful things working with Indigenous Australians as an Ambassador for the Deadly Choices program. Deadly Choices is a social marketing initiative that was started in 2010 in South East Queensland by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH). It aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, such as quitting smoking, eating good food, and exercising daily. We also raised over $1600 on the night for the “Bloody Long Walk – 35km to cure Mito” which Shane Schneider, Ravi Muttucomaroe & Monique Stanicki will be doing Sunday 19th of June https://event.bloodylongwalk.com.au/fundraisers/CHUCHUCREW. Thank you to everyone who donated.
